5 Birthmarks of the Born Again Christian

Those who are truly saved too comport the birthmark of compassion. How can y'all know that you lot are a Christian? By what you lot believe, by how you lot alive, and past whom you love. Love is a recurring theme in 1 John, and the campaigner leaves no doubt about how it permeates the lives of true Christians. "Beloved," he wrote, "permit us love one another, for dearest is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. . . . We know that we have passed from death to life, because nosotros love the brethren" (ane John 4:7; 3:14).

4. Born Again Christian: The Birthmark of Conflict

A fourth sign of existence truly saved is conflict. According to 1 John 5:iv, "Whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the earth—our faith." The wordovercomeimplies a struggle. We're faced with an adversary whom nosotros must overcome. Our antagonist is identified in one John 2:14 as the wicked ane: "I have written to you, young men, because you are stiff, and the word of God abides in you, and yous have overcome the wicked one." John went on in the adjacent verses to say: "Do not love the world or the things in the earth. . . . For all thatisin the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the optics, and the pride of life—is not of the Father simply is of the world" (ane John 2:15-17).

When you're genuinely born of God, you'll be growing to be an overcomer as y'all bargain with the temptations around you—the world, the mankind, and the devil. You may not be victorious over every temptation every fourth dimension, but y'all'll brand progress in gaining more victories and losing less battles as you grow stronger in Christ and in the ability of the abiding Word of God.

5. Born Again Christian: The Birthmark of Conduct

That leads to the final point I want to make: We tin can see bear witness for the validity of conservancy in our want to conduct ourselves in a way that pleases God. According to i John 3:9, "Whoever has been built-in of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, considering he has been born of God."

If we're not careful, nosotros might interpret this poesy to teach that anyone who is built-in of God never sins. That would conflict with other passages in the Bible that describe us as fallible and often declining.

In 1 John 3:9, the discussion for sin is a present active infinitive and it describes a continuous activity. John is non proverb that whoever sins once is not born of God. That would disqualify all of us. Information technology would certainly disqualify me. Simply John is proverb, in effect, "Whoever keeps on willfully sinning, violating God'due south law with stubborn disregard and ongoing wickedness, cannot have balls of salvation."
